This year I'll be returning to university to study Fine Arts and Visual Culture. I'm nervous but mostly excited to be hitting the books again... I feel like I haven't exercised my brain over the past few years that it's turned to mush. Plus, it's something I have to do for myself.

In 2006, I studied Primary Education and International Studies at a well-known university in Sydney. It wasn't my first preference (I wanted to study fashion but the entry mark was something absurd like 99.0) however, I stuck with it. After a semester of education, I decided it wasn't what I wanted to do so I withdrew completely.

In hindsight, it wasn't the smartest move. I regret not seeing the course through or at least, stopping and asking for help but at the time, I was a lot of things: young, afraid, naive and confused about my future*. People questioned my actions, which made me feel like a failure but had I not withdrawn I wouldn't be the person I am today. That is, I wouldn't have experienced the opportunities that came my way nor learnt the importance of doing something you love versus the practical or 'correct' thing to do.

I didn't intend for this post to go in the direction that it did. In fact, I was just going to inform you that I'm a student again and share a 'back to school' wish list! Hehe. I don't know what else to say... Actually, I do have one more (deep and meaningful) comment I'd like to make (and I promise no more for a little while),

It's easy to do as others do but if you allow yourself to conform you will never realise your true self, potential or happiness. Be true to yourself and don't be afraid to follow your dreams... Anything is possible.

Wishing you a Happy Monday!

*I think there's a lot of pressure on young people today to know what they want to do by a certain age and to be financially successful. It seems nowadays everything is measured in quantities not qualities. I believe if you work hard at what you love, success will follow.
